It is a privilege to share with you what we have achieved at St Catharine’s in the year since we published our strategic plan, ‘Our College, Our Future’ and what there is left to do.
We are fully aware of how the generosity of so many alumni and friends has made progress possible.
When I accepted the Mastership of St Catharine’s, I did so with a commitment to do what I could to enhance the environment for our students, to allow them to realise fully their extraordinary potential. Delivery of the strategic plan, Our College Our Future, has got off to the best start I could have envisaged, enabled by the outstanding generosity of donors to date. But there is more to do.
The vision espoused in ‘Our College, Our Future’ is not one that I consider a list of ‘nice to haves’. Rather, this is what must be delivered in its entirety to realise my commitment to our students. But this can be done only with your help. If you have not yet supported our current campaign, please consider doing so.
The University of Cambridge’s mission is ‘to contribute to society through the pursuit of education, learning and research at the highest international levels of excellence’. As part of the Collegiate University, St Catharine’s shares this ambition, while maintaining its reputation as an open, friendly and diverse college that promotes aspiration and wellbeing.
Our ambitious plans are the result of a comprehensive review of our operations and aspirations. Our College, Our Future sets out how we will achieve our goals through investment in world-class teaching and research, generous student support initiatives, revitalised buildings and the addition of new facilities. We remain incredibly grateful to our Members and friends, whose contributions have been the bedrock of our success to date. Our plans call for substantial investment in both physical and human capital, but their realisation will ensure that St Catharine’s thrives long into the future.
There has been a tremendous response to the launch of the campaign. The College received two particularly significant donations early in 2019, for fully funded PhD scholarships and the remodelling of central College spaces.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign to date. With your help, we can focus our efforts on raising the balance of funds required for our capital projects, sustaining and strengthening key features of College life, and delivering our outreach programme in full.
We are committed to ensuring that talented students can afford to study with us, but our academic priorities extend beyond bursary provision. We continue to welcome your philanthropy to fund scholarships, grants and awards for music, research, sport and travel.
